Meeting you was legendary The way it came to be This woman I was ogling Hopped in my car with me We spent two days together But then it had to end And now all I have to show Is a picture of my imaginary friend I told everyone about you And no one believed you were real They told me you were imaginary Along with how I feel I must have dreamed that Groupon That we used on Thai and beer I dreamed I texted 5170 To see if you'd come near I must have dreamed your cowboy boots And your brand new iPhone 4 I also dreamed that rejection At the passenger side door I must have dreamed your silken Dark chocolate sexy hair I dreamed a scar above your lips None of it's really there But maybe someday soon We will add to all this thought Another stanza in this verse When I dream you in another spot Until then, I'll understand Why my dream came to an end And I'll cherish this photograph Of my imaginary friend

It's time again, time to hide When answers turn to questions all the time Where message bottles get lost in the tide And hopes get pulled back out to sea It's time again, for him to hide But she just takes it all in stride Her hope is stronger than her pride But only for the time being The lightbulb shattered And darkness falls Across what really mattered Nothing can be saved at all A dreaded tale of love and hate Of how sadness wins And how love makes you wait If only for the time being End on a major chord- for emphasis of hope.

about

These compositions relate to dating experiences Jessica and I had separately before we met each other. The words were years old before a stay-at-home order led to me putting them to music. Both musical settings were improvised on the spot during "Live From Home" shows in March and April 2020.
